Compounding

Many individuals don’t respond to traditional methods of treatment and sometimes need medicine at strengths that are not manufactured by drug companies, or perhaps they simply need a different method of ingesting a medication. Pharmaceutical compounding meets these needs. It provides a way for physicians and compounding pharmacists to customize an individualized prescription for the specific need of their patient. Compounding provides solutions not easily met by commercial or ‘off-the-shelf’ products.

A compounding pharmacist can change the strength of a medication, alter its form to make it easier for the patient to ingest, or add flavor to make it more palatable. The pharmacist also can prepare the medication using several unique delivery systems, such as a sublingual troche or lozenge, a lollipop, or a transdermal gel or cream that can be absorbed through the skin. For those patients who are having a hard time swallowing a capsule, a compounding pharmacist can make a liquid suspension instead.

Your Fredericton Medicine Shoppe is a registered compounding pharmacy with the Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA), which allows us to offer a unique, patient-specific approach customized to individual needs. My wife and I have been customers of the CO-OP Medicine Shoppe since they opened in 2002. We have found the pharmacists and staff exceedingly helpful with advice on some of the strange drug concoctions some of us have to take these days, as well as the common every day sniffles, aches and pains. They always seem to treat us like members of the family and their service is fast and courteous and always with a smile! We even stop to say "Hello" when we are not using their services! A welcome addition to our lives.
